Twelve cities across five regions. The shop is in Burnaby; the work is everywhere from Whalley to Whistler. Pick a city for local code, climate, finish, and project-type notes.
How we cover Metro Vancouver and the Sea-to-Sky.
Vancouver Stairs operates out of a single CWB-certified shop at 2544 Douglas Road in Burnaby. From there we serve twelve Metro Vancouver and Sea-to-Sky cities — same crew, same weld procedures, same drawing discipline — but the way a stair is detailed changes a lot depending on where it is going. A waterfront railing in West Vancouver gets 316 stainless and a duplex finish; the same railing fifteen kilometres inland in Coquitlam does not need either, and asking for them adds $3,000 to a $9,000 scope for no benefit. A Whistler exterior stair is designed against a 3.0 kPa snow load; a Richmond exterior stair is designed against 1.6 kPa and a corrosive marine delta. Same shop, very different specifications.
The city pages below capture what is actually different about each one — building stock, AHJ behaviour, climate exposure, common scopes, and the kind of decisions that change cost and lead time. They are not boilerplate. Pick the one closest to your site and start there.

Our home base. Shop in Burnaby; most sites within a 20-minute drive.
Vancouver
Vancouver projects often combine older home structure with modern design expectations, so stair and railing details need careful measurement and drawing coordination.
Drive time: 15-30 minutes · Coast: moderate · Snow load: 1.6 kPa
Burnaby
Burnaby mixes custom homes, strata towers, institutional projects, and commercial spaces, which makes it a strong fit for both residential stairs and repeatable railing packages.
Drive time: 0-20 minutes · Coast: none · Snow load: 1.6 kPa
Richmond
Richmond projects often need durable exterior finishes and careful site planning for flat lots, wet conditions, and view-oriented railing work.
Drive time: 25-40 minutes · Coast: moderate · Snow load: 1.4 kPa
New Westminster
New Westminster combines heritage buildings, steep sites, townhomes, and river-adjacent multi-family work.
Drive time: 15-30 minutes · Coast: moderate · Snow load: 1.6 kPa
North Shore — 2 cities.
Steeper lots, coastal salt air, view-property design culture. Different finish strategy than central Metro.
North Vancouver
North Vancouver stair and railing work often serves steep lots, view homes, wetter weather, and waterfront exposure.
Drive time: 25-45 minutes · Coast: high · Snow load: 1.8 kPa
West Vancouver
West Vancouver work tends to be design-led, with feature stairs, glass guards, gates, and canopies built for high-exposure view properties.
Drive time: 35-55 minutes · Coast: high · Snow load: 1.8 kPa
Tri-Cities — 2 cities.
Burke Mountain new builds, Heritage Mountain split-levels, Moody Centre inlet exposure.
Coquitlam
Coquitlam has active new-build and renovation markets, especially for modern stairs, glass railings, and exterior metalwork.
Drive time: 20-35 minutes · Coast: none · Snow load: 1.8 kPa
Port Moody
Port Moody projects often pair view-focused railings with modern residential metalwork in wet, inlet-adjacent conditions.
Drive time: 20-35 minutes · Coast: moderate · Snow load: 1.8 kPa
Fraser Valley — 2 cities.
Township and City of Langley permit coordination, acreage gates and canopies, longer drive times.
Surrey
Surrey projects range from custom homes and gates to strata railing programs and commercial stair packages.

Sea-to-Sky — 2 cities.
2.4–3.0 kPa snow loads, freeze-thaw cycling, galvanized duplex finishes for exterior steel.

Squamish projects need mountain-weather thinking: durable coatings, site access planning, and snow or wind assumptions that suit the specific lot.
Drive time: 60-85 minutes · Coast: moderate · Snow load: 2.4 kPa
Whistler
Whistler stairs, railings, and canopies need mountain-grade finish planning, snow-load coordination, and installation scheduling around access and weather.
